What is a biokineticist?

A biokineticist is a healthcare professional who uses exercise as the primary tool for rehabilitation, injury recovery, and improving overall physical function. Rather than relying on manual, hands-on techniques, treatment is built around structured, personalised exercise programmes designed to restore strength, movement, and confidence.

How is a biokineticist different from a physiotherapist?

While there's often overlap, physiotherapy tends to focus more on hands-on, manual treatment — especially in the earlier stages of injury or pain. Biokinetics picks up from there, using progressive, exercise-based rehabilitation to help you rebuild strength, restore function, and safely return to daily life, sport, or peak performance.

Do I need a referral to see a biokineticist?

Not necessarily — you're welcome to book directly if you're dealing with an injury, managing a chronic condition, or simply want to improve your strength and movement. That said, many clients do come through referrals from a physiotherapist, doctor, or specialist as part of an ongoing treatment plan.

No matter whether you're recovering from injury or surgery, managing a chronic condition, or working toward better strength and performance, we welcome the opportunity to guide your recovery through movement."
